Shortly after the birth of The Buddha, an astrologer predicted that The Buddha would either become a great king or a holy man if he saw life outside the palace. His Father wanted his son to become a king, so he restricted his movements to the palace. But that was not to be.
When The Buddha was 29, he ventured beyond the palace and learned of the suffering of ordinary people. He abandoned his royal life and took up the quest for enlightenment that became Buddhism. The Buddha's teachings appeared in written texts about 400 years later.
"The Life Of The Buddha" is a BBC documentary on Buddhism with emphasis on the life of the Buddha. What is Buddhism and what has made it so popular are some of the questions answered. Unlike the other major religions , Buddhism does not have a supreme being but guide in the Buddha.
