Love makes the world go round. It's the not-so-secret sauce. But what is love, really? In Sanskrit, the word for pure, universal love is Prema — joy, completion, affection, kindness, delight. If it's pure and universal, it's present everywhere, throughout all time, in all circumstances. When a parent looks at a newborn, when music captures your heart, that's Prema. Easy to see. But what about when the music is discordant, when a colleague undermines you, when a relationship ends? Where's the love then? According to timeless wisdom, it's still there. It never sleeps. It's always accessible. Sometimes it just needs a little clarity — and yes, work — to see and experience it.
The focus for today is:
To receive the experience of universal abundant love, the trick is to give first. We give our love, our support, our joy to others first. It is then that the doors open for us as well. Sarah shares how her teacher advised her to see each child in her class as a pure and universal being every day as spiritual discipline. The result? A flow of Prema, even despite difficult behaviors. Decades later, she has deep relationships with those children, now grown into adults. The practical path to experiencing Prema all the time is to connect with it when it's obvious — then widen your experience. On the commute to work, let your love flow. At the grocery store, let your love flow. Answering emails, let your heart open. Make this a habit, and when tragedy or hurt strike, you'll find yourself strong, confident, and able to channel Prema to those who need it. Today's invitation is simple: give love first. Don't wait to receive it. Just give.
