THE PLUTO EFFECT: Humanity is undergoing a powerful process of detoxification. As bright light shines into the rooms of our collective consciousness, we are seeing more clearly that which was previously hidden in the dark corners and under the bed. Uncomfortable truths are being uncovered; we are seeing through the illusion and are being given the opportunity to reclaim our power.

This process is due, at least in part, to the planet Pluto moving through Aquarius. Pluto acts as a catalyst for a process of death and rebirth, a transmutation from an old form to a new one. Aquarius represents society and community, the way in which the individual contributes to the whole.

Pluto's alchemical effect on our world and our awareness has been heightened since it went "out of bounds" in late August. Further upping the ante, the dwarf planet is at a virtual standstill this month as it completes its five-month retrograde period and turns to go direct. This has the effect of increasing Pluto's influence throughout the month of October.

When a planet is out of bounds (more than 23°27' above or below the plane of the ecliptic), its influence is exaggerated. Pluto is out of bounds (OOB) this year from August 29 to November 23. During this time, we are observing an extreme drive to control and dominate through fear. We are also seeing the deep corruption that has woven its way through our governments and other social systems.

While this experience can be overwhelming at times, there is hope. Pluto is currently OOB to the South, which plays out very differently than if Pluto were OOB to the North. History reveals that when Pluto is OOB to the North, dictators gain control and the people are disempowered; when Pluto is OOB to the South, the people regain their power and societies are reformed.

Pluto will be OOB to the South periodically from 2025 to 2035. This year, it is OOB for a total of 86 days; this amount of time will increase every year until 2029, when it will be OOB for 155 days. After that, the annual total of days OOB will gradually decrease.

The last time Pluto was OOB to the South was from 1774 to 1795. These were the years of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.

AIR GRAND TRINE: This week, we are graced with the energies of an air grand trine. A grand trine is formed when three planets are at the same degree of three different signs of the same element (fire, earth, air, or water), with each planet in trine aspect (120 degrees) to the other two. This week's grand trine involves Venus in Libra, Uranus/Sedna in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius.

Astrologer Bil Tierney describes the effect of an air grand trine in his book Dynamics of Aspect Analysis:

"This grand trine confers an eager intellect, an ability to have a wide perspective of life, creative thought, and the capacity for new mental insights. We are able to objectively consider all sides of any issue before arriving at any lasting conclusions."

However, we must also be aware of the shadow side of this otherwise fortunate configuration: "Some may use their above-average powers of persuasion or cleverness (the con artist type) to coax others to act on their behalf or to their personal immediate advantage."

It is interesting, given these possibilities, that we also have a Mercury-Mars conjunction in Scorpio this week. This alignment will support and emphasize our capacity to see beneath the facade to the truth of the matter.

MERCURY, MARS, AND THE NORTH NODE: Mercury and Mars conjoin in Scorpio next Sunday, and both planets will be in harmonious trine aspect to the North Node this week. The alignment between Mercury, the planet of information and communication, with Mars, the planet of action and desire, indicates a sense of urgency about standing up for truth and making our voices heard.

Because Mercury will go retrograde on November 9, the Mercury-Mars conjunction will repeat two more times over the next few months: on November 12 (in Sagittarius) and on January 17 (in Capricorn). These dates are thus linked together, and we may want to track events around these times. November 19 should also be a significant date; the New Moon on that day is conjunct Mercury (back in Scorpio), and opposite Uranus (back in Taurus).

DAILY ASPECTS THIS WEEK (October 13 - 19, 2025):

Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important aspects, day by day:

Monday
Venus enters Libra: Venus will be in the sign of the Scales for about three weeks, from October 13 to November 6. During this time, we seek harmony and fairness in all our interactions and thus are usually more willing to cooperate or negotiate. The caution with Venus in Libra is to beware of settling for a superficial form of relationship because we are uncomfortable with disagreement.
Venus opposite Neptune: We could experience confusion, doubts, or disillusionment in either relationship or financial matters today. This is not a good time to make firm decisions or investments, whether of the heart or the pocketbook.
Pluto stations direct: Pluto went retrograde on May 5. Over the past five months, we have been called to consider our deeper motivations, and to review where we may have been giving away our power. As the dwarf planet builds up speed over the coming days and weeks, we are empowered to be more authentically ourselves based on the insights we have gained.

Tuesday
Mars sesquiquadrate Neptune: There may be some confusion about what we really want and what actions we need to take.
Venus trine Uranus, Sedna, and Pluto: With this air grand trine, we are creatively inspired, are willing to take risks in relationships and artistic endeavors, and could have significant insights into our true needs and motivations.
Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn: Communications could be awkward or interrupted today, and the mind tends to be pessimistic. There might also be travel delays or disruptions in technology. Patience is key!

Wednesday
No major aspects are exact today.

Thursday
Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune: The mind could have trouble tracking today. Miscommunications are possible.
Sun square Jupiter: While this aspect inspires optimism, it could also indicate a tendency to overestimate our abilities.

Friday-Saturday
Sun opposite Chiron/Eris: Although we yearn to live in harmony, we are very aware of the deep wounds carried by those whose rights have been denied and whose needs have been ignored. As we heal our own insecurities and fears, we are better able to take a stand for what we know is right.

Saturday-Sunday
Mercury/Mars trine North Node: Words and actions are in alignment with our soul's calling. We are able to see the bigger picture, to have compassion, to adapt to change, and to trust in the positive course of human evolution.

Sunday
Sun quincunx Saturn: We could experience self-doubt and a bit of insecurity with this aspect. The voice of the inner critic might be louder than usual.
Mercury conjunct Mars: We stand strong in our truth and are able to speak with confidence. The mind is focused, perceptive, and strategic. There is a strong drive to know what is going on behind the scenes.

If Your Birthday Is This Week (October 13 - 19):

You may become aware of any unhealthy relationship patterns this year, and you will have the opportunity to regain your balance in this area of your life. As a part of this process, it will be helpful not to judge yourself, but to acknowledge the fears and insecurities that could have driven self-negating behaviors or choices. As you bring compassion and caring to the part of you that has felt ignored or rejected, a deep healing is enabled. (Solar Return Sun square Jupiter, opposite Chiron, opposite Eris)
