The Pathway to Integrated Living
— Daily reminders for a conscious, connected life —

We've all tried to cage the tiger—those intense emotions that feel too dangerous, too unpredictable to let roam free. We build stronger walls, thicker bars, better controls. But the tiger keeps breaking out anyway, often at the worst possible moments. What if the problem isn't that we need a stronger cage, but that we've been approaching this all wrong? What if it's time to negotiate instead?
The focus for today is:
There is no cage that can ever be constructed strong enough or thick enough to keep her always locked up. It is time to negotiate.
Today's message is inspired by Dona Witten and Akong Tulku Rinpoche, authors of the book: Enlightened Management: Bringing Buddhist Principles to Work
Repressing emotions isn't the same as learning to work with them. When strong emotions arise—grief, anger, betrayal—the first step is simply to pay attention rather than ignore or flee. Take space, go for a walk, give yourself time to experience what's happening. Then comes the crucial work: examining how these feelings connect to patterns from the past and how they might shape the future. Most painful memories carry blame, directed either at ourselves or others. Emotional obsessions rarely arise full-blown; they develop over time as small irritations fester into international incidents. By recognizing these patterns early and choosing how we react rather than letting reactions choose us, we break the cycle of suffering and create a new emotional chain reaction—one built on understanding rather than retaliation.
