09 14 shoulds get in the way of free will

Have you ever felt like damaged goods—bruised by life, marked by struggles, somehow less than perfect? Today, consider a different perspective: what if your blemishes and battles have actually made you stronger, wiser, more capable of healing? What if the very experiences that wounded you also taught you how to thrive? Sometimes our greatest strength comes not from perfection, but from our willingness to heal and grow despite—or because of—our scars.
 
The focus for today is:
In these "less than perfect" specimens is a willingness to heal and to grow.
 
Today's message is inspired by Mary S. Corning, author of the book: Perfect Practice: A Philosophy for Living an Authentic and Transparent Life
Mary Corning shares wisdom from a nutritionist who told her "the best fruits and vegetables to eat are the ones with blemishes" because there is "a positive cellular effect that comes from the survival response or healing practice of the fruit." She saw this immediately as an analogy for life itself. Through her work with horses and her own journey, she discovered that "being battered by life events offered me opportunities to find a state of surrender that opened my ultimate will not just for having well-being but also for learning it." She reminds us that our free will is our most precious gift—the place where we find passion, inspiration, and creativity.
